This test is not as difficult as it seems. I have helped my wife pass this test over a 3 week period.
Whilst the some of the knowledge in the book, produced by the Home Office, is oppressive and unnecessary, a lot of the information is very useful and should help anyone wanting to settle in this country.
There are techniques which can be applied to make the learning a lot easier and more friendly, e.g. how to work out the result without knowing the answer.

Life in the UK book
This site would enable you to read 90% of the book produced by the Home Office, and also read it for you by clicking on the small "speaker" sign shown on the page itself, plus all the dificult words that are underlined are explained.
So if only limited help is available to you, you should be able to carry on the studying by yourself and get help from a spouse, relative or friend on the rest.
You will have to take each section test too and if you fall below the required pass mark, you should carry on reading again or seek help until you are very comfortable and confident with that section.
When you have finished most "Section Tests", then you can move on to the full tests.
